The building at 49 Zvulun Street, corner of Yedidia Frankel Street, was constructed as a residential structure in the International style between 1927 and 1936. The building’s façade, stairwell, and corner balconies were preserved and restored as part of a broader effort to conserve the unique urban fabric of the Florentin neighborhood. This neighborhood is characterized by buildings with an “S” line along the street, projecting balconies, and “arcades” that extend over the sidewalk, often serving commercial or artisanal purposes on the ground floor.

So, what challenges did we face in this project?
In this restoration project, we confronted silica walls that were not of standard thickness, but rather measured just 12 cm, composed of brittle and friable stones. To address this, we executed 7 layers of consolidation using lime mortar to reinforce the stones. Subsequently, a layer of lime-based plaster was applied, embedded with a high-alkaline-resistant fiberglass mesh weighing 145 grams per square meter, ensuring optimal and conservation-oriented strengthening of the structure’s foundation. The restoration of the structure involved the utilization of materials provided by “Perseco”:

  • Restoration mortar system – Weber.tec.repair 60
  • Consolidation layer – Weber.calce.china.malta M2.5
  • Transparent mineral primer – Weber.prim B4
  • Plaster – Weber.calce.into-g
  • Fine lime plaster – Weber.calce.cornice.corner
  • Siloxane paint
